Family Notes: My husband remembers his grandfather Aulford telling him about an accident when he and a group of other sailors fell from the crows nest (lookout tower) and 2 of the sailors were killed. Aulford had many broken bones, was in the hospital for a long time, and had a badly broken arm that left one arm shorter than the other. Later, when he married and had children, he named his youngest daughter (middle name) after the nurse who took care of him; Doris. Except that the nurse's name was spelled Dorris.
