A.K.A.

Winslet, Winslette, Winsletts, Winslut, Winslat

Note: William is the son of Samuel Winslett (5x Great Grandfather of county music artist Trisha Yearwood).

Relationship:

3x Great Grandfather

Parents:

Samuel WINSLETT, Sr. - Ancestor of Note: Samuel is also the 5th great grandfather of country singer, Trisha Yearwood. The TV show "Who Do You Think You Are" featured her family tree on Season 4, Episode 7. Samuel arrived from Surrey, England in 1766 after he and his brother John were charged with stealing/hunting deer on Lord Winterton's property in 1765, a crime punishible by death by hanging. Instead, the court showed royal mercy and Reprieved the orphan brothers, "Transporting" them to work in America for 14 years. 4 years later, Samuel was granted 100 acres of land in Riceboro, Liberty County, Georgia, from King George III. He later served in the American Revoluntionary War and in 1784 was granted 287 acres in Washington County, Georgia, not far from Monticello. As was still common for many prominent land owners in the South during this time, 1820 records indicate Samuel had 22 slaves. (The TV episode did not share this tragic, though also historical, information.) He died 9 years later at the age of 85 in 1829. A few years prior to his death, Samuel sold this land to a different family and moved to Putnam County, Georgia. (This information will be moved to Samuel's profile page as soon as it is available.)
